Matrix Providers is potentially hiring a Radiographic Technologist
- MRI Tech to join our team of talented professionals who provide
health care services to our Military Service Members and their
families in Travis AFB, CA.
Employment Status: Full Time
Compensation: This is a salaried position, paid bi-weekly.
Schedule: Shifts will vary but will not exceed a 9-hour shift with
a 1-hour unpaid lunch and a maximum of 40 hours per week. Scheduled
hours will depend on the mission, department manager will make
every effort to notify Contract employee of schedule changes at
least 2 weeks in advance.

Requirements: The Radiographic Technologist - MRI Tech must have
and meet the following:
Degree: Certificate.
Education: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the
Joint Review
Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
Certification: Certified by the American Registry of Radiologic
Technologists (ARRT) for MRI. California Venipuncture
Certificate
Experience: Have two (2) years of regular (twenty (20) hours or
more per week) continuous experience as an MRI Technologist within
the last 36 months and be fully proficient in all the duties
required of an MRI Technologist to the satisfaction of the
department manager.
Job Summary:
Initiate, perform Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Magnetic
Resonance Angiography Imaging (MRA) of the head, neck, spine,
musculoskeletal system, chest and body with the use of 1.5T and 3T
scanners.
Conducts complex MRI and MRA studies, including extremity run-offs,
in-depth Cardiac studies, Neuro and Breast MRI, (refer to para.
Functions, n.), a minimum 25% of the time, providing images of the
head, neck, spine, musculoskeletal system, chest and body.
Requires the use of power injectors and reconstruction of images
post image acquisition.
Perform without and with use of various contrast materials.
Perform exams to achieve diagnostic studies so that proper
diagnosis and treatment may be effectuated.
Performs exams in a manner to optimize all the radiographic
equipment including the MRI scanner times while maintaining a
flexibility to allow for emergency cases. This requires the
prioritization of scheduled patients as well as the ability to
accommodate the extreme emergency patient who may need immediate
emergency surgery, etc.
Confers with radiologists to determine requirements of non-standard
exams. Determines technical factors, positioning, number and
thickness of scans, etc., to produce and satisfy requirements of
MRI scanning. Schedules patients for examinations when needed using
MHS Genesis electronic health record system. Notifies the
radiologist of scans requiring their immediate attention.
Works with the radiologist as a member of the radiographic
team.
Must assist and anticipate the needs of the radiologists and the
performance of the exam.
Must be continuously on the alert for the patient's condition (the
alertness of the individual is essential to prevent contamination,
recognize patient reactions, anticipate technique factor
difficulties, etc.).
Prepares contrast materials that are used in MRI and general exams.
Improper use or administration of the contrast materials run the
risk of patient mortality and, therefore, it is essential that a
thorough understanding of the contrast material usage is possessed
by those who prepare it. In addition, must be continuously on the
alert to the patient's condition and other disorders. Reactions on
the part of the patient require immediate attention so that harm
does not come to the patient.
Qualified to insert IV needles for administration of contrast
material.
Instructs MRI practices, fundamentals, scanning abilities, IV usage
and techniques to MRI trainees and new MRI personnel. Is competent
in the use of power injectors for dynamic studies and insert IV
needles for administration of contrast material.
Counsel's patient on contrast injection process, verifies patient
lab values prior to injection.
Well versed in contrast reaction avoidance and response to contrast
reactions.
Performs administrative actions pertaining to patient exam
completion within the electronic health record system (EHR). This
includes patient check in/out, exam start/end procedures,
documenting contrast administration, requisition and editing of
patient exams in the Radiology Information System (RIS), copying of
films, etc. Sends images to the PACs system for image
interpretation.
Properly identifies patient by following TJC Patient Identification
Requirements of two patient identifiers. The radiographer must be
certain that the patient I.D. band and the request are identical.
Asks each patient to actively confirm his or her name and date of
birth.
Assures that MRI patients are screened in advance for any
contraindicating conditions per MRI department Operating
Instructions and Radiology Service policy. Contract employee must
be aware of and practice the safety policies and procedures of the
medical center and participate in quality assurance activities as
directed. Responsible to explain exams to competent patients so
that patients understand what is to be done as well as what
hazards, if any, are possible. Assures MRI patients are screened
for previous gadolinium-based contrast media reactions and/or
contraindications to gadolinium-based contrast media.
Uses Manufacturer safety information to verify the safety of
specific implanted or external medical devices including
pacemakers/ICDs, nerve stimulators, insulin pumps, etc. prior to
allowing entrance to Zones III & IV.
Responsible for stocking and inventory of all MRI imaging supplies
and related material. Responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the
scanner room, equipment and all accessories IAW Infection Control
Standards. Ensures crash cart checks are completed at the beginning
of each shift.
Continually reviews new developments in MRI imaging. Is continually
on the alert to improve quality of examinations utilizing the new
technologies available. The purpose of this review is to provide
the physicians and patients with the best possible images and scans
for diagnostic purposes.
Responsible for assuming various rotating schedules as determined
by the department manager to include on call coverage and
occasional overtime as necessary.
Must be or able to become proficient and perform MRI and MR
angiography; including but not limited to extremity run-offs,
in-depth Cardiac studies, Neuro and Breast MRI. These studies
require the use of power injectors and reconstruction of images
post image acquisition. Once trained and proficient the contract
employee will train others.
Correctly position the patient for the examination and make
technical adjustments necessary for the required examination.
Determine if any special patient preparation is required.
